Looks like another famous 'Johnson' model 'D' farebox. This design remained unchanged from its inception in 1909 and was so well built and reliable that it virtually never needed repair. A close up will show the 'cheater' (a ball and rod at the end of a chain) that would fall out of its socket if the box was turned over.
